I'll be honest I've been so busy either moving house or travelling that I haven't actively consumed as much media as I would have liked but things happen and life goes on! I could just wait until I have more but I think it's nice to offload my brain every so often.
MUSIC
Phoebe Bridgers - Lost Boys
I was over the damn moon when Phoebe announced her first album in 6 years. Listened to the lead single and I'm not actually sure what I was expecting but I absolutely loved it! It has this euphoric feeling that I haven't quite felt in her other material, and has these like Sufjanesque horns that I adore. Keen to see how depressing the rest of the album is going to be, but I think I'm ready.
Violet Grohl - Be Sweet To Me
I think I've been screaming about this album from the rooftops at this rate since it came out (I genuinely think I've brought it up in interviews at least 3 times, and that doesn't even count the times I've casually brought it up to friends and coworkers lmao). Violet has this way of bringing up the 90s influence in her songs that simultaneously feels familiar but also fresh, and I'm absolutely obsessed. I'll defend her to the ends of the earth I swear.
Blondshell - Violins & Heart Has To Work So Hard
Absolutely stoked that we're getting new Blondshell this year! I have simply loved everything that she has put out so far for very similar reasons to Violet. These new singles are no exception. I also saw her say that everything she puts out gets closer to being exactly what she envisioned, and I love that for her and I can feel it with her output! VERY excited to hear the rest of the album.
TV
Kylie documentary
FINALLY got around to watching the Kylie doco and it was incredible! It was extremely thorough and I really loved seeing the BTS of the making of an Aus icon. You don't actually realise just how many hits and bangers she has put out over the last 30-40 years until its contexutalised like that, it was incredibly fascinating! Loved the stuff about Michael Hutchence and the Nick Cave stuff - also highkey obsessed with the fact that if it weren't for Nick Cave, we may not have got pop comeback Kylie, which soundtracked not only mine, but most people my ages childhoods, so thank you Nick.
BOOKS
Even The Good Girls Will Cry - Melissa Auf De Maur (currently reading)
Okay I am only halfway through this book, but already, I'm absolutely loving it. I love seeing life through Melissa's eyes and how she processes life around her, especially all the stuff with Hole and her childhood. There's something about her that I can fully relate to, like the big crazy whirlwind life stuff happening around her, but managing to still stay sensible, grounded and able to process it in a healthy way without getting swept up by the temptations of being in a hugely successful rock band alongside Courtney Love of all people. It also is a great comfort to me to get to learn some of Courtney's story from someone who was (and still is) so close to her, and really on her team.
PODCASTS
Bandsplain - Madonna month
May was Madonna month on bandsplain and her career was legitimately split up into four 3 hour episodes (+ 2 bonus eps). Aside from being aware of her cultural impact and her hits, I never really dove into Madonna and her story but my god is it fascinating. I'm 3/4 episodes down, I only have the 20th century + the bonus eps to go, but her story is a really interesting one.
Also, I been saying this for many years now but Hung Up is one of the best dance songs to exist.
