MUSIC

I haven't really listened to a whole lot of new music lately as I've mainly been listening to decade specific playlists at work. Generally I like to marry whatever music I listen to with the podcasts and books I've consumed.

Some genres I've been listening to are:

  • 80s college rock

  • 90s Indie

  • 90s radio rock (a forever fave of mine)

  • 00s hard rock

PODCASTS

Bandsplain - The Germs with Pleasant Gehman

Prior to this podcast, I had literally only heard of The Germs through the Foo Fighters doco when they were giving Pat Smear some context. This was SUCH a fascinating story about the early days of punk in LA through the lens of The Germs and having Pleasant on as co-host who had boots on the ground at the time (and dated Pat as teenagers) was literally the most perfect touch on such a crazy story.

60 Songs That Explain The 90s: The 2000s - Seven Nation Army

Tbh I'd recommend every episode of this podcast if I could. There's something about Rob Harvilla's delivery, the tone, as well as the quirky anecdotes mixed in with facts that makes this podcast my comfort listen. Recommending the White Stripes epsiode as Jack White/The White Stripes specifically are one of my favourite bands and any media about them I will absolutely soak up like a sponge.

Bandsplain - PERFECT SONG: Boys on the Radio + Interview with Melissa Auf Der Maur

Bruh. The way I put this on as soon as it dropped. Boys on the Radio is an incredible song off an incredible album and I was so glad to see it get its flowers in podcast form. Also obsessed with the interview with Melissa (my love)! Very very excited to read her book!

TV

The Pitt - season 2

Obviously I have continued with The Pitt as episodes drop weekly. I have absolutely loved this season and how real it feels. I think everyone was expecting some mass casualty like in season 1, however I personally have found how the aftermath has manifested in each character to be much more harrowing. I genuinely haven't felt this level of dread watching a television show, in a long time, perhaps ever.

Riot Women

This show I found through browsing through SBS on Demand. Its about a group of menopausal women, each with their own heavy level of baggage who come together to form a rock band to give them a sense of purpose. It captures the mental load of women and how women have generally suffered at the hands of shitty men, in a vast variety of ways. It has kept me on the edge of my seat whilst also feeling empathy for these women as well as rage towards men in general.

GAMES

Pokopia - Nintendo Switch 2

okay I am absolutely SMITTEN with this game! I put off buying it but was defnitely swayed by what I was hearing about it. I love games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, but sometimes I tend to get overwhelmed by the slow nature and lack of direction. It leaves too much up to choice, which isn't what I'm seeking when I'm playing to decompress.

I absolutely love the pokemon element of the game as well as the little tasks and missions whilst also being able to design my space! literally obsessed.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream - Nintendo Switch

I wasn't expecting to get into one switch game, let alone two, in the space of like 1.5 months but alas, here we are. This game is just dumb fun and not overwhelming like say an Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley or Pokopia (there's so much to do in that game). I'm loving saying and doing dumb shit and taking my time.

OTHER

The Beths - The Gov 17/4/2026

The Beths are my comfort band fr. My band has supported them a couple of times now so I know them personally pretty well, but it was nice to just be able to go and see them play without having to worry about gear and playing well and everything that comes with performing. I swear, every time they release an album I come out with more favourite songs than I had before, which is crazy refreshing. They simply do not miss and it was an absolute joy to see them live again!
