on the weekend, my band had the incredible opportunity to open for AC/DC and Amyl & The Sniffers at their absolutely huge Adelaide show.
The amount of times were asked how we got the offer and the truth is, for a band of our size, you never expect that to happen. the offer came in via a phone call and i couldn't quite believe what I was hearing.
ANYWAy - it was an interesting day! outrageously fun but slightly overwhelming and with having to abide by strict rules and restrictions, technical difficulties during the set, and a jet show eating into our soundcheck, we made it out alive!
It was also at the supercars, so you can only imagine the vibe of the whole thing. put supercars fans + acdc fans in one environment (there would be a lot of overlap), and you have a very specific vibe, and typically it's not a very female/afab friendly vibe (especially for the talent but it could have been worse). We played first and by the time we played there were already at least 20,000 people there, if not more. It is by far the biggest show we've ever played.
As soon as I walked out to start playing, my nerves kicked in and i locked in and tried not to take any notice of the crowds reception. From what I hear it was a very mixed bag with some people loving it and some very ambivalent. I wasn't really surprised by this given we are a very small fish in one of the biggest ponds you can find. what i WAS surprised at though was the reception for Amyl & The Sniffers. almost crickets. from what i'd say is our biggest rock export at the moment.
we managed to catch like 2/3 of ac/dc's set, and despite their age, it was bloody solid. i'm kinda glad i can say i've seen them now.
highlight of the day for me was probably catering because it is so easy to just miss meals on gig weekends and i hadn't eaten a proper meal in like 3 days so i really appreciated the opportunity to sit down and eat properly lol
anyway shout out amyl, shoutout acdc, shoutout catering,
i'm going to hibernate now until 2026.
